What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Student Technician - Extern position at Summa Health?
Nurse Student Technician-Extern will be paired with a Registered Nurse to provide nursing care for patients and their families with goal of assisting patients in attaining, maintaining, and restoring optimum health. Makes decisions about nursing care from a sound knowledge basis and guidance of the Registered Nurse. The Nursing Student Technician-Extern will function in this role until the completion of the required course hours.
Formal Education Required:
a. Satisfactory completion of junior year nursing courses at an accredited nursing program: Senior status.
b. Enrollment in the Nursing Student Technician-Extern course provided by your nursing school.
Experience & Training Required:
a. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Ability to assume collegial relationship with other health care professionals in exchanging information for the wellbeing of patients and their families.
b. Ability to collaborate with patients, families, visitors, and nursing staff in implementing nursing care plans.
c. Ability to provide necessary care for patients (i.e., neonate/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-age adults, and geriatric adults) as required by position.
d. Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
e. Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
Level of Physical Demands:
a. Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
