Duties
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on longwall mining equipment including shearers, armored face conveyors, roof supports, and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics, OEM manuals, and diagnostic tools
- Conduct welding, fabrication, and assembly of parts to ensure equipment operates at peak performance
- Use hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery such as cranes, excavators, forklifts, and tractor-trailers for equipment servicing and movement
- Diagnose diesel engine problems, transmission faults, brake issues, suspension components, HVAC systems, and electrical systems to minimize downtime
- Maintain detailed service records and logs of repairs performed for compliance and future reference
- Assist with equipment upgrades or modifications using fabrication skills and technical schematics to enhance operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic with a focus on construction machinery maintenance or underground mining equipment
- Dealership experience or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) familiarity is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, transmissions, hydraulics, air brakes, alignment procedures, electrical diagnostics, and welding techniques
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, schematics reading, soldering, heavy lifting techniques and tire service
- Ability to troubleshoot complex industrial equipment issues efficiently using diagnostic software and technical manuals
- Experience working with heavy equipment operation such as excavators or cranes is a plus
- Excellent customer service skills combined with safety-conscious work habits are essential
