What are the responsibilities and job description for the Implementation Manager position at SumIt Software?
About SumIt
There's a version of family office accounting software that's been around for 20 years, costs a fortune, requires a 6-month implementation, and still can't do multi-entity consolidations without a consultant. SumIt is the alternative.
We're building the simplest, most configurable multi-entity general ledger purpose-built for the wealth management space — SFOs, MFOs, business managers, and the accounting firms that serve them. Not a generic GL bolted onto a wealth platform. Not QuickBooks with a facelift. A real general ledger, built from the ground up for the people who actually do the books at family offices.
We've had terrific traction, more than doubling our business every year while maintaining a high standard for customer service - our users love us! We're a hybrid team of ~10 people, headquartered in NYC, building something we expect to matter for decades. Note aside, we've just been voted best family office accounting software.
About the Role
You'll own the onboarding journey for new SumIt clients — primarily single and multi-family offices — from kickoff through go-live. You'll partner with family office accountants, controllers, and CFOs to configure their SumIt environment, migrate their data, train their teams, and set them up for long-term success.
Our clients run complex entity structures and multi-entity reporting unique to the family office space. You'll manage 5-10 concurrent implementations on 2-4 month timelines, working alongside Customer Success, Sales, and Product. Family offices are relationship-driven, and every implementation is the start of a long-term relationship — we're looking for someone who treats every client like the most important client.
Remote or based in our DUMBO, Brooklyn office. East Coast business hours. Reports to our Customer Success lead.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end implementations on 2-4 month timelines — discovery, configuration, training, and handoff to Customer Success
- Configure SumIt environments: entities, COA, dimensional structures, permissions, and integrations
- Lead COA conversions and data migrations from QuickBooks, Sage, Archway, Advent Geneva, and other legacy systems
- Train accountants and controllers; manage relationships across client teams, external CPAs, and custodians
- Surface client feedback to Product and help build SumIt's implementation methodology — templates, playbooks, configuration standards
- Occasionally join Sales calls on qualified prospects to answer technical accounting questions
Required
- 4-6 years inside an SFO, MFO, or family office accounting practice — you know the rhythm of the work
- Strong working knowledge of multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, consolidations, and dimensional reporting
- Solid understanding of investment and partnership accounting (capital calls, distributions, allocations, K-1s)
- Hands-on proficiency with at least one accounting platform (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Archway, or similar)
- Genuine eagerness to incorporate AI tools and AI-driven workflows into your day-to-day work — we expect everyone on this team to actively look for ways to use AI to work smarter, not just when assigned
- Genuine client-service orientation — you treat every client like the most important client and build trust through follow-through, not promises
- Comfortable leading calls with CFO and controller-level stakeholders, and owning timelines, scope, and risk across 5-10 concurrent engagements
- Self-directed; picks up new platforms fast; comfortable where process is still evolving
Preferred
- CPA or Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) in a previous role for client communication, documentation, data analysis, or process automation
- Experience designing AI-driven workflows (custom GPTs, Claude projects/skills, prompt libraries, AI-assisted automations)
- Platform certification (QBO, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Archway, or comparable)
- Exposure to RIA, wealth management, private investment, or fund accounting operations
The SumIt Way
We hire for the Ideal Team Player: smart, hungry, and humble.
Smart means good judgment — you read the room, know when to go deep and when to move on, ask the right questions.
Hungry means you care about outcomes, not job descriptions.
Humble means low ego — you take feedback because it makes you better, you give credit freely, and you do whatever needs doing.
Our culture is built on ownership, openness, and transparency. We share context freely. We don't have politics. We hold each other accountable with kindness. And we don't take ourselves too seriously.
Compensation
- Base salary: $110K–$140K, depending on experience and location
- Equity: Meaningful equity grant with a four-year vest and one-year cliff — we lean heavier on equity than most seed-stage startups because we want our team to share in what we build
- Benefits: Standard package (health, dental, vision, 401k)
We're looking for owners — people who want a real stake in what SumIt becomes.
