What are the responsibilities and job description for the Growth Marketer position at SumIt Software?
Founding Growth Marketer | SumIt
Job Type: Full-Time Location: Remote (US) — some travel for events; NYC a plus
Who We Are
SumIt is the multi-entity general ledger purpose-built for family offices. Single- and multi-family offices run some of the most complex finances in the world — dozens of entities, trusts, properties, and investment vehicles — on tools that were never designed for them. We're the simplest, most configurable GL in wealth management, built for the doers: the accountants and operators who actually keep these organizations running.
We're also building the future of how family offices interact with their data. Our MCP integration lets a principal ask "what did we spend on legal over the past two years?" in plain English and get an answer in seconds. That's not a feature — it's a category shift, and it's wide open.
We're disciplined, founder-led, and on a deliberate path to profitability — not a burn-fast unicorn race. We serve an underserved but strategically critical market, and we win through client trust and exceptional software. Small team, high conviction.
About the Role
You'll be SumIt's first dedicated marketing hire, reporting directly to the CEO and owning marketing — strategy and execution. This is a hands-on builder role: you'll do the work, not just direct it. You'll own the function, but you won't be alone in it: the CEO stays closely involved, especially on brand and narrative. Think real partnership, not hand-off-and-disappear.
This is a build-from-early role — taking SumIt's marketing from 0.5 to 1, and 1 to 2. Not zero-to-one from a blank page (we already have a brand, clients, and real traction), and not scaling someone else's mature machine — but turning scrappy, founder-driven marketing into a true owned function. If building that foundation excites you more than optimizing an existing playbook, you'll love it here.
Your north star: build SumIt's name in the family-office world — and let that authority land us qualified pipeline. In a market where reputation is everything, recognition and trust come first; pipeline is the output. Success looks like the right family offices, MFOs, and wealth managers entering conversations because they already know and trust SumIt.
You'll own the full growth stack — content and narrative, SEO, website, events, partnerships, and sales enablement — and build the systems that make it compound. You'll partner closely with the CEO (who stays the face of founder-led sales) and Product to turn marketing, product, and sales into a flywheel.
Read this part carefully — it's the whole job. This is not a performance-marketing, last-click role. We don't sell to "a lead who clicked a Facebook ad." We sell to family offices and wealth managers — sophisticated, skeptical, relationship-driven buyers in a small, high-trust market. Sales cycles are long. The ROI here is built over quarters through authority, credibility, and trust — not in a dashboard that lights up 48 hours after a campaign launches. We absolutely measure and we're rigorous about pipeline, but the goal is the right relationships maturing, not raw lead volume or cheap CPCs. If you need same-week conversion numbers to feel successful, this isn't your seat. If you know how to build a brand that earns trust in a market where reputation is everything, it is.
No playbook. Full ownership. Real impact.
What You'll Own
- Growth funnel & analytics — own the funnel end to end: lead-source analysis, channel ROI, qualification reporting, and the judgment to reallocate effort fast. You build the dashboard and you make the call.
- Content & narrative — own demand-gen content: newsletter, articles, LinkedIn, and above all turning our MCP/AI story into something the market repeats. This is our category lever.
- Website & SEO — own getsumit.com: manage it, improve it, get into the CMS yourself. Drive SEO to results, including emerging AI search (GEO/AEO — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews). Own our presence on G2, industry forums, and association directories.
- Events — own the calendar: which events, the ROI case, prep, and follow-up. You'll also attend some in person and represent SumIt on the ground, not just from behind a laptop.
- Partnerships & sales enablement — develop channel relationships (Addepar, industry associations) and arm sales with assets, case studies, and the live MCP demo.
- Product marketing — partner with Product on positioning, launches, and capturing AI/MCP use cases.
- AI-powered systems — build marketing workflows that get smarter over time, not one-off campaigns you rebuild from scratch. Use AI to multiply your own output.
(Paid acquisition is a minor, ROI-gated lever here — not the core motion. We win on trust, narrative, and relationships, not ad spend.)
You'll Thrive Here If You
- Have previously built a marketing function, program, or go-to-market playbook in an early-stage startup environment.
- Are obsessed with outcomes, not activity — you care about qualified pipeline and revenue, not posts published
- Treat distribution as a product: you build systems that compound, not campaigns that expire
- Are comfortable with long, trust-driven sales cycles — you can connect today's brand work to pipeline that matures over quarters, not days, and you don't panic when the dashboard doesn't move overnight
- Are an active, daily user of AI tools — for workflows and analysis, not just copy (we're an AI product; you'll dogfood it)
- Can run your own roadmap and ship across many fronts without being chased — strong self-direction and project management
- Have taste: can produce or direct content that fits a premium, trustworthy brand
- Are genuinely interested in fintech and the world of family offices — and respect the operators we serve
- Have a "see something, do something" mentality and thrive without a playbook
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–6 years in growth / full-stack / founding marketing at a B2B SaaS or early-stage startup
- Proven track record of driving measurable pipeline — we'll ask for specifics
- Hands-on across content, SEO, and website management — you ship without waiting on engineering
- Data-driven operator — you can build a dashboard, read funnel/attribution data, and make fast calls
- AI-first in your day-to-day — you use Claude and similar tools to work faster and build smarter
- Strong project management and self-direction — you own a number, not a task list
Strong plus:
- Experience marketing to fintech, wealthtech, accounting, or family-office / RIA audiences
- SEO depth including emerging AI search optimization (GEO/AEO)
- Experience with AI image/video/audio tools for content production
- Design sensibility — comfortable working within brand guidelines and producing polished assets
