Position Summary
The Construction Division Manager oversees and directs all aspects of the companys landscape construction operations. Acting as both a division leader and construction branch manager, this role ensures efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction within the construction branch of the business. The manager is responsible for coordinating between the project manager, landscape designer, plant manager & purchaser to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget. In addition, this role manages staff, streamlines workflows, enforces safety and quality standards, and represents the division in building strong relationships with clients, vendors, and the community.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Development
Set and embody high standards for the Construction Division, establishing nonnegotiables around quality and attention to detail. Live the standard and lead by example.
Hold the team accountable to these standards: using training, coaching, and development as the primary tools, while applying firm pressure when necessary.
Directly lead, manage, and mentor the entire Construction Division team (design staff, project managers, site supervisors, field staff, and branch administrator), including regular one-on-one and team meetings.
Drive strategic direction and initiatives to improve sales, operational workflow, procurement, quality control, and process standardization, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
Model and reinforce company values: continuous improvement (humility), accountability (embrace the challenge), immediate action (urgency), high effort (extra mile), and integrity (deliver on promise).
Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and develop division employees, providing ongoing coaching and professional growth opportunities.
Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, profitability, and project efficiency to promote continuous improvement.
Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT): including branch managers, directors, and executives to ensure the Construction Division supports company profitability, operational efficiency, long-term growth, and exceptional customer experiences.
2. Client Relations & Business Development
Drive revenue growth by serving as the divisions backstop, stepping in to generate sales and close opportunities when needed.
Prepare and format proposals, bid packages, and estimates for client review and timely submission.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and builders to ensure satisfaction, repeat business, and long-term partnerships.
Represent the Construction Division in high-level sales meetings with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders, and assist in resolving escalated project issues.
Collaborate with designers, sales, and estimating teams to ensure revenue goals and budget targets are consistently achieved.
Identify new business opportunities and implement process improvements to support continued growth within the division.
Support business development efforts through professional representation at industry events, networking functions, and client meetings.
3. Operations & Project Management
Oversee all landscape construction projects from estimation through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within scope, on budget, and in alignment with customer expectations.
Develop and execute operational plans, budgets, and schedules to achieve company goals and profitability targets.
Ensure accurate estimating and efficient scheduling of labor, equipment, and materials while maintaining strict adherence to contract specifications.
Leverage BOSS LM software to manage administrative workflows, including scheduling, job tracking, reporting, and contract documentation.
Monitor project performance, proactively identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain quality and profitability.
Co-lead and manage snow operations in the territory (in partnership with branch managers) to meet seasonal goals and ensure profitability.
4. Financial & Business Management
Own the Profit and Loss Statement for the Construction Division: develop annual budgets, monitor monthly financial statements, adjust operations to achieve or exceed revenue, gross profit margin, contribution margin and net profitability goals.
Implement accurate sales-to-job-costing processes to ensure proper estimating, timely billing, effective change-order management, and prompt collections.
Track and forecast the project pipeline to maintain a balanced backlog of profitable work and support long-term growth.
5. Coordination & Administration
Lead and facilitate internal construction meetings including weekly construction, crew leader, and safety/production meetings.
Serve as Division Manager with responsibility for performance reporting, budget tracking, and KPI documentation.
Act as the central communication hub among project managers, landscape designers, plant managers, and purchasers to ensure project alignment.
Streamline cross-departmental workflows to coordinate design, material procurement, and field execution.
Oversee procurement, contracts, and administrative processes to support efficient and compliant operations.
Ensure accurate reporting and documentation in compliance with company policies and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Landscape Construction, Construction Management, or related field (preferred, not required with equivalent experience).
57 years of progressive leadership experience in landscape construction or related fields.
Proven success in managing multiple projects and coordinating across departments.
Strong knowledge of landscape construction techniques, materials, equipment, and safety practices.
Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate diverse teams.
Solid financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, scheduling, and cost control.
Excellent communication and client relationship-building skills.
Proficiency with project management and scheduling software; knowledge of BOSSLM systems is a plus.
Ability to problem-solve under pressure and make decisions that balance company goals with client needs.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently visit construction sites, which may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and navigating outdoor worksites.
Must be able to lift or carry materials and equipment weighing up to 25-50 lbs. on occasion.
Requires good vision and hearing for safety, inspections, and communication.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
Work Environment:
Combination of office-based work and field site visits.
Frequent interaction with project managers, designers, plant staff, purchasers, clients, and subcontractors.
Exposure to typical construction site conditions, including noise, dust, and moving equipment.
May require occasional early mornings, evenings, or extended hours to meet project deadlines.
SPECIAL NOTES, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Pre-employment: Incumbents must sign the Confidentiality, Non-disclosure, and Non solicitation Agreement prior to their first day on the job.
License: A valid class C drivers license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is required at the time of appointment.
Language: Fluent in Spanish is preferred but not required. English communication skills are required for this job classification. Certifications: No certifications are required of this job

Working Conditions: Work is predominately conducted in an office environment with associated noise, space, and computer screen exposure.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates may be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of 90 Days.
