Role and Responsibilities 

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for maintaining and operating land-based equipment, i.e., Track hoe, Bulldozer, Front End Loaders, Forklifts and Telehandlers. This position will also be responsible for verifying all maintenance records and keeping accurate equipment logs daily to be turned into the Captain and the Project Manager. The Heavy Equipment Operator will make sure that the equipment is always operating properly and in a safe and productive manner. Additional duties will include, but will not be limited to, conducting and attending safety meetings, JSAs, and performing maintenance duties, with the primary focus on safe overall shore-based operations aboard company equipment.  

 This position will be under the direct supervision of the Fill Foreman. 

  • Operation and maintenance of shore-based equipment
  • Conducting JSAs (Job Safety Analysis) on your shift
  • Conducting monthly drills on your shift
  • Proper accounting of time for operations
  • Proper accounting of time
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with the maintenance program
  • Keep inventory of spares and consumables
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

 The employee must have: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of heavy operation experience in the marine construction and dredging industry
  • Understanding of the maintenance needs of the equipment
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
  • Must be reliable and motivated.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results-driven.

 Preferred Skills 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. 

 The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and the location where the work is being done. 

 In addition, a Heavy Equipment Operator must also be capable of: 

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at a peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
