QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
Experience/Skills
- Two years’ experience in physician’s office or related experience preferred
- Possesses a background in medical-surgical nursing and immunizations
- Exhibits knowledge of clinic functions
- Works well in conjunction with other clinic staff
- Demonstrates knowledge of community health resources for alternate health services
and knowledge of community health nursing principles and practices - Communicates effectively both verbally and in written reports
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant that complies with all guidelines
within the scope of a CMA - CPR

Essential Functions
- Performs the following clinic duties:
- Patient intake including medical history and physical assessment to prepare patient for their visit
- Various testing
- Lab work
- Assures patient records are maintained and transferred as requested
- Ensures that ordered test results are in the patient record and available for the provider to review at time of patient examination
- Maintains current knowledge of medications and correct administration based on patient and their current clinical condition
- Assists provider in procedures
- Obtains consent for procedures as directed
- Uses appropriate aseptic technique
- Collects lab specimens and prepares specimen for transport according to policy
- Maintains knowledge of Lab policies
- Ensures that examination rooms are fully prepared and that patients are seen in a timely manner
- Records all phone conversations and information provided to the patient in the medical record to facilitate clear communication among all clinic staff
- Answers telephone promptly, directs calls appropriately, and relays messages using patient cases in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Monitors voicemails throughout the day and processes appropriately
- Accurately schedules office visits and in-office procedures
- Reviews schedules for conflicts and coordinates necessary staff and equipment
- Documents in the patient record in a timely and accurate manner including all assessments, medications administered, and tests performed
- Understands growth and development principals and provides age-appropriate care. Interprets clinical data based on these principals
- Responds to emergency situations appropriately and immediately
- Exhibits ability to prioritize and organize work/responsibilities
- Performs other nursing duties as assigned
