About the Position
Sugerman Communications Group – an LA-based public affairs and communications consulting firm involved in some of the leading issues facing the region and nation – is seeking a new Junior Associate to join our team. Our clients are leaders in their fields and influencers in sectors such as transportation, education, housing, finance, and more.
The ideal candidate would have an undergraduate college degree and 1-2 years of experience in a communications/public affairs setting, such as a corporate communications department, media outlet, public relations firm, or political office.
As a small firm with an active roster of clients, SCG offers extensive room to learn and advance through hands-on experience. The type of work assigned to Junior Associates is limited only by their desire to learn and grow. We’re looking for candidates who have great organizational skills, a keen aptitude for writing, a strong sense of curiosity, and stellar attention to detail.
This is a great opportunity for candidates looking to gain experience in communications strategy, stakeholder engagement, issues management, and media relations.
Among other things, the Junior Associate will be:
- Writing for a variety of client projects, including websites, client presentations, social media posts, and talking points;
- Conducting policy research for clients;
- Conducting media relations activities, including media reports, standard media outreach for story placement, and supporting press conferences and other events;
- Supporting and enhancing the firm’s social media capabilities;
- Monitoring a variety of media (traditional, online) on issues of importance to our clients;
- Developing and maintaining media contact lists;
- Supporting the account lead and team in all aspects of client engagement and account coordination;
- Attending/ participating in public hearings on client matters; and
- Providing administrative support to the team as necessary

Compensation, including benefits, will be competitive and guided by the candidate’s relevant professional experience. We ask that candidates be located in Los Angeles.
