We’re seeking a proactive and experienced In-house Attorney to lead all legal functions across our fast-growing, multi-state beauty and retail business. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and collaborate closely with key departments including HR, Operations, Product, and Real Estate. The ideal candidate brings expertise in California employment law, wage hour compliance, and class action defense, with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of a high growth, service driven business.

Position Overview
We’re seeking a proactive and experienced In-house Attorney to lead all legal functions across our fast-growing, multi-state beauty and retail business. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and collaborate closely with key departments including HR, Operations, Product, and Real Estate. The ideal candidate brings expertise in California employment law, wage hour compliance, and class action defense, with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of a high growth, service driven business.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert counsel on multi-state employment law, with a focus on California wage hour, worker classification, and leave policies.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
- Partner with HR on employee relations matters, internal investigations, policy development, and compliance training.
- Monitor and assess legal developments in employment, privacy, advertising, and related areas to identify potential business impacts.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, FTC, OSHA, ADA, and state cosmetology board requirements.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including leases, vendor contracts, marketing/influencer agreements, and service partnerships.
- Manage pre-litigation matters, subpoenas, and relationships with external counsel.
- Oversee corporate governance, entity filings, and broader risk and compliance frameworks
- Protect intellectual property, reviewing brand, marketing, and advertising claims for legal accuracy.
- Lead and oversee outside counsel and external legal projects.
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
- 5 years of legal experience, including time in both a law firm and in-house role.
- Expertise in employment law, privacy, contract, and real estate law.
- Proven success advising multi-unit , client focus business such as retail, wellness, or hospitality.
- Strong communication Ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance and advisement.
- Experience managing employment law matters across multiple states, with California required.
- Prior experience supporting retail or service-based companies is highly preferred.
