Position Overview:
Sugar Creek Charter School's mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous, college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on academic preparation, college and career readiness, and life skills for success. We are seeking a mission-aligned, passionate, and dedicated 7th Grade Science & Project-Based Learning Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster curiosity, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking through hands-on, project-based learning experiences that connect science to real-world applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management:
- Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned science lessons that integrate project-based learning (PBL).
- Facilitate hands-on experiments, lab activities, and inquiry-based investigations to deepen students' understanding of scientific concepts.
- Guide students through collaborative projects that encourage problem-solving, creativity, and real-world application of STEM principles.
- Utilize data-driven instruction to assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Foster a structured, engaging, and inquiry-driven classroom environment that encourages exploration and critical thinking.
Student Support & Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with students while maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Encourage scientific literacy, curiosity, and a growth mindset through interactive discussions and exploration.
- Incorporate technology, engineering challenges, and environmental awareness into lessons to make science relevant and meaningful.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, projects, and classroom activities.
- Ensure student safety through consistent supervision and by following and implementing the school-wide behavior plan.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
- Actively seek and apply feedback to improve instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with grade-level team to align science instruction with interdisciplinary projects.
- Participate in planning and coaching sessions with curriculum leaders and instructional coaches.
- Engage in ongoing professional development focused on inquiry-based instruction, STEM education, and project-based learning.
- Contribute to the school community through team meetings, committees, and school events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field (required).
- Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina (preferred).
- Experience teaching middle school science and/or project-based learning (preferred but not required).
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to high expectations for all students.
- Passion for STEM education, hands-on learning, and student-centered instruction.
