GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Unit Leader serves as a developmental role under the Harvest Unit Supervisor, designed to mentor and prepare individuals for future supervisory responsibilities. The Team Lead assists in overseeing daily harvest operations, supporting the supervision of personnel, coordinating logistics, maintaining equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards. This role requires strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to take on increasing responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Provides hands-on guidance and mentorship to team members, serving as a bridge between employees and supervisors. Supports daily operations by addressing challenges, fostering collaboration, and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Promotes a positive work environment, assists in employee development, and helps drive team success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Harvest Unit Supervisor in overseeing daily harvest operations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to harvest team members, fostering skill development and readiness for future supervisory roles.
- Monitor harvest schedules, ensuring proper resource allocation and timely delivery of sugar cane to the mill.
- Support the maintenance and repair of harvesting equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in implementing and enforcing quality control procedures to maintain product integrity and safety standards.
- Act as a point of contact between team members and supervisors, facilitating effective communication.
- Identify operational challenges and propose solutions to improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including proper procedures for cane burning certification.
- Maintain accurate records of team performance, equipment use, and operational activities.
- Operate a Harvester and/or Tractor as needed.
- Undertake special assignments as directed by the Harvest Unit Supervisor.
- Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong leadership potential with a willingness to learn and grow into a supervisory role.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for data tracking and reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to operational success.
- Bilingual and biliterate, English and Spanish preferred.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATION:
- Class E (Regular) driver’s license, required.
- Florida Forrest-Division burn certification, preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- At least two (2) years of experience in agriculture, logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Previous leadership experience, such as crew lead or team leadership roles, is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular attendance during scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to work in environments with varying weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy conditions.
- Must be able to perform all duties associated with farming operations, including bending, climbing steps, kneeling, reaching, and crawling.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
