Ag Equipment Operator - Harvest Season Seat

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for operating heavy equipment to perform land leveling, grading, ditching, and field preparation activities in support of sugarcane planting, cultivation, and harvesting operations. Work involves safely and efficiently operating motor graders, tractors, dozers, and related earthmoving equipment to maintain proper field elevations, drainage systems, and access roads. Ensures work is completed according to agricultural specifications, production schedules, and safety standards to support optimal crop yield and field accessibility. Work involves inspecting and maintaining equipment and ensuring that it is in safe working condition.

Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment, including motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, tractors, etc.

• Performs a variety of tasks, such as grading land, excavating, and loading materials

• Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections of company equipment to ensure it is in good and safe working condition

• Conducts routine maintenance including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and ensuring all safety equipment is functional

• Reports any accidents, mechanical issues or damage to company equipment promptly to the supervisor

• Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals

• Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

• Follows organizational and public safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment; 

• OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bilingual – English and Spanish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

•  Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to equipment operation

• Skill in using mathematics required for the work

• Ability to read and interpret maps and blueprints

• Ability to work with GPS and other precision equipment technologies

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment

• Ability to operate a manual transmission, motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks, and tractors

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines 

• Ability to work long hours in a physically demanding environment 

• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior workers

• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented team

• Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, orally and in writing

• Ability to follow public safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe manner

• Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
