1570 DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY                                                        

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

The Director of Technology is responsible for strategic planning, implementing, and managing technology to support educational and administrative goals. Key duties include developing technology policies, overseeing IT staff and budgets, ensuring network and data security, IT  project management, and providing professional development and support for staff on using technology for instruction.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Schools.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

  • Reports directly to the Chief of Schools;
  • Strategic Planning and Vision: Develop and implement a long-term technology strategy that aligns with the institution's educational goals and mission. This includes staying current with emerging trends and evaluating their potential to improve learning outcomes;
  • Instructional Integration: Collaborate with faculty and academic leaders to embed technology effectively into the curriculum, supporting innovative and student-centered instructional practices;
  • Professional Development: Coordinate training programs and professional development opportunities to ensure staff and faculty have the necessary skills to use technology effectively and ethically;
  • Infrastructure and Support Management: Oversee the school and district's technology infrastructure, including networks, hardware, software, and communication systems, to ensure reliability, security, and efficiency. This involves managing the technology department and support staff; and collaborating with City staff with regards to infrastructure projects;
  • Budgeting and Procurement: Develop and manage the technology budget, oversee the procurement of new equipment and software, and pursue supplemental funding opportunities like grants and E-rate;
  • Project Management: Responsibilities include project leadership and execution (defining scope, planning, monitoring), resource and stakeholder management (budgeting, vendor contracts, communication), and quality assurance and evaluation (testing, deployment, review);
  • Policy and Compliance: Develop and enforce technology use policies, ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state laws and regulations, such as FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA, and focusing on data privacy and security;
  • Digital Equity and Citizenship: Coordinate initiatives to ensure equitable access to devices and resources for all students and staff, and promote digital citizenship and responsible technology use;
  • Strong understanding of Google Workspace for Education and other current IT trends;
  • Researches and evaluates new methods and applications of technology for use in education;
  • Evaluates hardware and software for use in education;
  • Performs related tasks as required;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential. The role demands an ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, from technical teams to teachers, parents, and executive leadership.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.  The successful candidate must possess a deep background in Educational Technology, with a proven ability to architect solutions that meet industry technology standards for scalability, security, and operational efficiency.


CETL Certification (Certified Education Technology Leader) highly recommended and must be completed by June 2027

CompTIA Project preferred

Salary : $126,975 - $193,701
