Suffolk County Government seeks highly motivated Senior level Urban Planners and Project Managers to join the Department of Economic Development & Planning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES::
Salary Range: $61,309

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years permanent competitive status as a Community Development and Planning Specialist.
This Role Is A Provisional Appointment
A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES::
- Three years of urban planning and project management experience.
- Experience in collaborating with staff members and residents
- Experience with public outreach, community engagement, and stakeholder coordination
- Skills related to graphical design of printed and digital materials, including experience in Adobe Creative Suite or similar software, and experience creating highly visual reports and documents
- Thorough understanding of fundamental planning principles and practices including an understanding of the short-term and long-term socioeconomic implications of planning decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master’s Degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, AND one (1) year of experience planning transit-orient developments in downtowns or neighborhood centers in suburban areas;
- Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience planning transit-orient developments in downtowns or neighborhood centers in suburban areas.
