Role Summary
The Assistant Regional Controller will have expert knowledge in all aspects of construction accounting, being recognized as the department’s most experienced resource in the areas of AP, AR, and Job Forecasting processes.
Responsibilities:
Typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Accounts Receivable
- Ability to create outline and expectation for the project requisition process with the client
- Lead monthly requisition review meeting with the Owner.
- Provide timely responses to client with ability to defend point of view with contractual terms and/or industry standards.
- Communicate with client to drive timely collection of outstanding A/R
Accounts Payable
- Ensure the subcontractor is complying with terms and conditions of the contract, identify watchouts and lessons learned to others
- Manage and train subcontractors on Suffolk and Owner billing requirements; provide opportunities for improvement and ensure procedures are consistent
- Provide guidance to others on proper processes to collect all required approvals and compliance documents prior to releasing payments
Job Forecasting
- Lead monthly cost review meeting with Project and Regional Management, providing insight on profit risks and opportunities.
- Ensure the project is accurately reporting contract and profit values per contract. Provide best practices to others on managing these processes while maintaining company standards.
- Challenge the change management process if a risk item or control weakness is noted, address it immediately with regional and project management.
- Manage and train others on best practices for general conditions tracking and proper general conditions reporting to prevent profit erosion.
- Responsible for the company’s project financial control systems and project management reports are accurate and consistent with company financial reporting.
General Accounting Functions
- Provide insight on proper accounting procedures, utilizing experience and lessons learned while ensuring consistency throughout all projects.
- Monitoring the cash position of the project and completion of the monthly cash position analysis
- Work closely with Regional Accounting personnel to ensure proper reporting of project financials and ensure consistency with project and management financial reporting.
- Actively participate in Accounting Department initiatives and lead process improvement groups through implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- 10 years of related experience
- Can mentor mid-level employees and provide guidance on professional development
- Advanced technical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Advanced knowledge of Suffolk’s accounting and project management platforms
- Actively participates and leads department initiatives
- Advanced knowledge of the Construction industry with an ability to educate others

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Compensation Information:
Base Salary for this position is just one component of Suffolk’s total compensation package. Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education and other qualifications, including budgetary objectives. Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy.
