What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder/Fitter position at Sue-Jac Inc?
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a pipe fitter, structural fitter, or welder in a fabrication shop or field environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
- Experience with layout, fitting, and assembling structural steel or pipe components prior to welding.
- Proficient in welding processes such as SMAW (stick), FCAW (flux core), MIG, or TIG depending on project requirements.
- Ability to tack, fit, and align components to meet specifications and tolerances.
- Knowledge of measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, and calipers.
- Experience using cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools.
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
- Valid welding certifications (AWS or company test).
- Ability to pass welding and fitting tests prior to employment.
- OSHA safety training or other relevant safety certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work at heights or on elevated platforms when required.
- Capable of working in outdoor or shop environments in varying weather conditions.
Work Responsibilities
- Fit and assemble structural steel or pipe components according to blueprints and specifications.
- Prepare materials for welding by cutting, grinding, and aligning components.
- Perform tack welding and assist welders during fabrication.
- Inspect fitted parts to ensure proper alignment, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas in compliance with safety regulations.
- Work closely with welders, supervisors, and quality control personnel to complete projects on schedule.
Other Requirements
- Reliable transportation and ability to work overtime when required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
