Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - with Van Monitor Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive):
Provide exceptional nursing care to students by assessing health status, responding to school nurse and staff’s requests for assistance, and making observations on rounds
Administer first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatments, nursing treatments, procedures, follow doctor orders and individualized care plans to provide appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or other students; observe, identify, and respond to the needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education
Assess situations involving students' other health-related issues, identifying problems, referring for proper treatment, and complying with legal requirements; confer with the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) for treatment
Recognize urgent or emergency patient care situations; seek assistance of the RN and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed or needed
Assist special education and/or medically fragile students and other passengers, provide safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations if needed
Monitor students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, or parent, ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers
Collaborate with other school personnel to ensure that students' individual care plans are being followed
Establish constructive relationships with students and their families to promote positive relationships and learning as established by the appropriate treatment plan
Document incidents with or without adverse effect to student and refer to RN for follow-up and/or investigation
Maintain students' confidential files and records, providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards
Support Sudbury Schools as assigned/travel between buildings as necessary
Perform other related duties as required/assigned by Nurse Coordinator or Designee
Title: Van Monitor
The role of the Van Monitor is to assume the responsibility for the safety of children in need of bus transportation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for making sure children are seated safely and remain seated when riding the van;
Responsible for being aware and responding to any need or problem with a child during transportation;.
Responsible for reporting behavior problems;
Responsible for all children being accounted for during pickup and deliveries to and from school;
Responsible for knowing and having on board the names and addresses of students assigned to the route;
Effectively communicating with the van driver, program staff and administration;
Actively engaging students during transport in a positive way;
Responsible for actively participating in training regarding students needs and safety;
Other job related duties as assigned.
M-F school days only;
Hours approximate: 15-20 hours per week (up to 2 hours/morning and 2 hours/afternoon).
