What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Engineer position at Success Matcher Recruitment?
About the Opportunity
Our client is an early-stage hardware company building intelligent direct current power distribution infrastructure for AI data centers, tackling the industry’s critical shift to 800-volt DC systems as AI workloads drive massive increases in power demand. This is a chance to work directly alongside the founder, who brings over a decade of energy investing and industry experience, and to help define the technical foundations of next-generation power infrastructure from the ground up.
This is a highly hands-on, full-stack hardware role: you’ll take early-stage prototypes and turn them into deployable, customer-ready systems, with real ownership over the path from lab bench to production.
What You’ll Do
- Own the transition from prototype to alpha product, turning rough, lab-scale systems into structured, testable, customer-ready hardware
- Design and build high-voltage DC power systems (800V-class), developing power conversion, switching, and distribution architectures using modern semiconductor devices (e.g., SiC)
- Model, simulate, and validate system performance using tools like SPICE or PLECS, iterating rapidly on electrical, thermal, and system-level design
- Lead hands-on bring-up, debugging, and characterization in the lab using high-power equipment
- Use AI-native workflows (agents, LLMs, simulation augmentation) to accelerate design, testing, and iteration cycles
- Coordinate end-to-end hardware execution with external partners on PCB fabrication, component sourcing, and packaging
- Drive pragmatic, system-level tradeoffs across performance, thermals, reliability, and manufacturability
What We’re Looking For
- 2 years of experience designing, prototyping, and testing power electronics systems, with a track record of owning hardware from prototype through to a validated system
- Strong intuition for reasoning across electrical, thermal, and mechanical tradeoffs
- Genuinely AI-native: actively uses AI tools (agents, models) as part of your engineering workflow
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or demonstrated, proven aptitude in power electronics
- Proficiency with electrical simulation software (SPICE, PLECS)
- Hands-on experience with gate-driver design for fast-switching architectures
- Bonus: experience in EV, EV charging, solar, or battery storage; hands-on work with high-voltage/high-power switching systems (800V, SiC, fast-switching); a track record of hands-on curiosity through side projects (e.g., Formula SAE)
- Based in or willing to relocate to Detroit, MI; no visa sponsorship available
Salary : $175,000 - $225,000
