Suburban operates a wide variety of equipment. The Garden Center Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a forklift and bucket loader to load customer’s vehicles, stock inventory and keep the outdoor Hardgoods area organized and customer-safe. This role supports daily stocking, seasonal resets, and customer load-outs of outdoor Hardgoods. This position will split time between operating and assisting customers with product questions.
Job Duties:
- Support the sales floor as needed
- Operate forklift to unload and load trucks, move pallets, and stage product for stocking and customer pickup.
- Operate skid steer/Bobcat to handle and relocate bulk materials (soil, mulch, gravel, compost) and assist with outdoor yard tasks.
- Move, stack, and organize palletized garden center product (pavers, block, bagged soil/mulch, fertilizer, stone).
- Assist with customer load-outs (loading pallets/bulk materials into vehicles/trailers) following store safety policy.
- General housekeeping duties of work location.
- Assist customers with product questions and direct them to the right products/services.
- Assist in loading of bag good materials into customer vehicles.
- Training available.
Qualifications & Requirements
- OSHA Forklift certification required (Will get certified at Suburban)
- Prior experience operating a forklift and skid steer/Bobcat preferred
- Strong safety focus and ability to work around customers and vehicles.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat/cold and changing weather conditions.
- Flexible availability during peak seasons (spring/fall), including weekends and overtime.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle bulky items with team/equipment assistance.
- Frequent standing/walking; bending, reaching, climbing on/off equipment.
- Comfortable working in outdoor yard environments (dust, noise, uneven surfaces).
