We’re Hiring a Project Manager

This is not a coordination-only role.

At Subsurface, the Project Manager is responsible for managing the overall construction schedule, contractual risk, project quality, customer and employee satisfaction, and organizational profitability.

You will serve as a key connection point between the client’s project team and Subsurface’s operations and management team, helping ensure that each project is planned, communicated, executed, billed, and closed out with discipline and accountability.

If you believe successful projects are driven by preparation, risk management, communication, safety, and follow-through—keep reading.

If you are uncomfortable owning schedule, cost, contract obligations, quality expectations, and client communication, this role is not for you.

The Mission

Your mission is to manage geotechnical construction projects safely, profitably, and in alignment with contract, quality, schedule, and customer expectations.

Success in this role means:

  • Projects are planned and executed with safety as a priority.
  • Revenue and gross profit goals are met.
  • Contractual risk is understood, communicated, and managed.
  • Crews, equipment, and superintendents are coordinated for proper execution.
  • Products are built in accordance with quality standards.
  • Project issues are identified early and resolved before they create work stoppage.
  • Clients and internal teams can rely on your communication, organization, and follow-through.

Speed without safety, quality, profitability, or reliability is failure.

Who This Role Is For

This role is for someone who:

  • Is honest about project risks, cost impacts, scope gaps, and schedule concerns.
  • Is respectful when working with clients, superintendents, crews, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Is self-motivated and takes ownership of project outcomes.
  • Applies creative problem-solving to project-specific challenges before they become delays.
  • Is responsive when conditions change, decisions are needed, or issues arise.
  • Is reliable in communication, documentation, billing, scheduling, and follow-through.
  • Is fair in enforcing expectations, managing subcontractors, and resolving project issues.

You perform best when:

  • Expectations are clear.
  • Details matter.
  • Accountability is measured.
  • Communication is consistent.
  • Problems are addressed early, not ignored.

What You Will Do

  • Adhere to company safety policy and model a commitment to working safely.
  • Manage and promote a safe work environment by following the company safety program and OSHA requirements.
  • Achieve revenue and gross profit goals.
  • Manage projects with no rework or loss claims.
  • Work toward maintaining a Net Promoter Score of 9.0 or higher.
  • Develop and implement the job readiness process with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Schedule crews and equipment with superintendents to ensure proper project execution.
  • Develop and maintain quality control and best-practice procedures for all products.
  • Maintain and execute job startup and handoff processes with superintendents.
  • Develop cost estimates and schedules and manage projects through the company financial system and project management procedures.
  • Ensure contract responsibilities are communicated and executed appropriately.
  • Review and negotiate contracts for scope completeness, accuracy, indemnification, damages, and exposure risk.
  • Complete routine project reviews with superintendents and project managers to resolve issues and verify compliance with design, quality control, contract, and schedule requirements.
  • Update monthly contracts in progress, including schedule and budget adjustments or summary reporting for over/under billings.
  • Complete timesheets, billings, and company expense reporting on time.
  • Maintain COI and W-9 documentation for subcontractors annually.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of site, utility, and concrete scopes of work on each project.
  • Provide foresight into how other trades’ and customers’ goals impact Subsurface’s work.
  • Identify potential issues well in advance of work stoppage and provide solutions that support customer and project team success.
  • Maintain a positive and organized company image, including a clean and organized vehicle and work area.
  • Adhere to and enforce company policies.
  • Manage the completion of all punch lists.
  • Participate in project evaluation sessions and apply lessons learned to future projects.
  • Serve as the liaison between the client’s project team and Subsurface’s operations and management team.
  • Ensure timely and regular attendance.
  • Travel during the day and occasional overnight travel as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of employment.
