ABOUT SUBCRITICAL SYSTEMS
Subcritical Systems, Inc. is a venture-backed startup in Austin, Texas building the accelerator driven systems and the only US commercial manufacturer of accelerator cavities. What Space X did for rockets, we plan to do for accelerator cavities and commercialize across applications of power production, medical isotopes, semiconductors and waste transmutation.
We are in the process of building the Energy Amplifier — a novel nuclear fission system in which a particle accelerator drives a subcritical core, making meltdown physically impossible for clean power production. Due to its inherent safety, our system has a more streamlined licensing process. Our founding team includes successful entrepreneurs with a track record of building several multibillion dollar companies in deep-tech, and scientists who were leading U.S. national labs with deep experience in accelerator & nuclear technologies.
We are actively hiring to expand our team as we work toward licensing, regulatory submissions, and construction of our first energy amplifier. More information is available at subcritical.com.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Office of the President is hiring a Communications & Investor Relations Associate — a sharp, high-agency generalist who will own Subcritical’s external presence and work side by side with the President and C-suite. Reporting directly to the Office of the President, you will run our social media and press, build investor reports and diligence trackers, support finance on models and decks, drive our recruiting outreach, and keep events and the day-to-day of the executive office running smoothly. This is a rare early-career seat with a direct line into how a venture-backed deep-tech company is built, financed, and scaled. We are looking for someone young, exceptionally smart, fluent with AI tools, and hungry to do whatever it takes — the kind of person who can pick up anything from a press release to a financial model to company merch and run with it.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own and run Subcritical’s social media and external communications channels, executing the company’s comms strategy and using it to strengthen our brand and amplify hiring.
- Drive hiring: drive LinkedIn outreach and talent acquisition, source candidates, and relentlessly ping and follow up to keep the hiring pipeline moving.
- Write and coordinate press releases and media, and produce compelling creative content — from social assets to company merch.
- Support investor relations: prepare investor reports and updates, maintain diligence trackers, and help manage relationships with investors and partners.
- Partner with our finance lead, to build financial models, pitch decks, and presentations, and to produce polished, external-facing materials.
- Organize company events and photoshoots end to end, and reach out to prospective partners to help advance business development and fundraising.
- Support the President and C-suite across BD, finance, fundraising, hiring, strategy, media, comms, policy, and scheduling, anticipating needs and removing friction so the executive office runs smoothly.
- Use AI tools to move faster across everything above — drafting and editing media, automating outreach and SEO, and building lightweight agents and workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- No degree or minimum years of experience required — what matters is demonstrated ability, shown through real work and a portfolio.
- Strong command of communications, social media, and SEO.
- Fluency with AI tools for media, comms, outreach, and content creation (e.g., Claude Code, building agents, automated workflows).
- Basic financial modeling, plus the ability to build pitch decks and presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication — able to talk credibly to any key stakeholder, from candidates to investors to press.
- Based in or able to relocate to Austin, TX; comfortable working fully in person and putting in long hours and work over evenings and weekends. Ambitious, hungry, and a strong problem solver.
Preferred
- Tech-savvy and able to build interesting, high-quality media and creative assets.
- Experience supporting executives or founders, or running comms, talent, or events at a startup.
- Genuine interest in deep tech, energy, or nuclear — and the ambition to learn how a company is built from the inside.
BENEFITS
Benefits: We offer health, dental, and vision insurance.
LOCATION & WORK POLICY
This role is fully in person in Austin, Texas. Our facility is located next to Austin Airport.
