Job Title: Early Childhood Teacher

9 month position

Classification: Certified

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Qualifications:

  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certification


General Statement/Summary of position:

To create a nurturing, safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and addresses the needs of students from three to five years of age.

Duties:

  • Participate in professional growth activities, faculty meetings, educational conferences and teacher professional development days.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans, and submit in accordance with administrative guidelines on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee and facilitate the general safety of the classroom environment and its activities to include outside play.
  • Interact with children through instructional methods to include play, music, arts and crafts, reading, writing, science and physical activities.
  • Assist children with completing assigned projects and enhancing learning skills.
  • Design and maintain classroom climate to include visual aids related to curriculum and age/stage of development.
  • Monitor talents, special abilities, disabilities, deficiencies or problems of each individual child, document issues/concerns as needed in log book and notify management.
  • Promote and foster each child’s positive self-esteem and individual development toward fullest potential in the areas of physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth.
  • Prepare thorough evaluations for children on a yearly basis or as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a positive interpersonal relationship with all children, fellow staff and parents/guardians.
  • Assist children with personal care activities to include toileting, feeding and cleanliness needs in relation to age/stage of development.
  • Assist in daily supervision of paraprofessionals.
  • Attend in-service conferences, staff meetings and parent meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate and current attendance records and other related paperwork.
  • Adhere to all established policies, procedures and code of ethics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a provider of direct services by implementing the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for those children with disabilities in a variety of settings.
  • Implement an appropriate education program that addresses the following for each student:
  • A safe, nurturing classroom environment
  • A variety of opportunities to learn through direct and indirect instruction
  • Learning experiences that allow students to make choices and address the individual needs
  • The utilization of multiple and differentiated instruction strategies
  • Interpret students’ educational needs and progress to parents; maintain a parent contact log.
  • Identify the specific learning needs of each student properly identified as disabled under IDEA and maintain a clear record of each student’s instructional experience and progress in the permanent special education file.
  • Act as a member of a multidisciplinary team when designing/delivering services to a young child with disabilities.
  • Act as a resource to building staff regarding disability methods and materials.
  • Participate in all activities related to the IEP or Evaluation/Re-Evaluation process
  • Plan and coordinate the work of Paraprofessionals
  • Keep up with and comply with current standard and indicators and compliance
  • Maintain quarterly progress of all goals.
  • Participate in professional growth activities, faculty meeting, educational conferences and teacher professional development days.
