Position Summary
- The Activities Director & Assistant Transportation Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the school’s extracurricular and co-curricular programs, including athletics, clubs, fine arts, and student activities while assisting in the safe, efficient operation of the district’s transportation system. This role ensures all programs promote student growth, school spirit, and align with the school’s educational goals. The director will manage program logistics, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and compliance with district, conference, and state policies. This role ensures compliance with Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations and supports daily transportation logistics, including routes, maintenance coordination, and driver support.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and oversee the athletic department, including team sports, athletic facilities and budget.
- Work in collaboration with the building principal’s to hire, evaluate, and support coaches; ensure proper certification and professional conduct.
- Organize, update and maintain school records,
- Work hand in hand with teachers/coaches to promote strength and health among athletes
- Develop and manage athletic schedules, including games, and practices.
- Schedule and contract contests for all activities.
- Contract all game officials for activities.
- Collaborate and collaborate to schedule transportation for away events that do not interfere with daily bus routes.
- Coordinate event logistics, including supervision (e.g., security, ticketing, concessions, crowd control).
- Ensure compliance with MSHSAA paperwork is complete and turned in on time (e.g. Eligibility Lists).
- Ensure MSHSAA and Sturgeon R-V policies and guidelines are followed.
- Maintain athletic equipment inventory and facility safety.
- Promote sportsmanship, integrity, and academic achievement among student-athletes.
- Coordinate and support extracurricular clubs, fine arts, student government, and other extra curricular and co-curricular programs.
- Facilitate the creation of new student organizations in response to student interest.
- Oversee scheduling and promotion of school events such as dances, assemblies, concerts, and competitions.
- Provide leadership training and guidance to student organization advisors and student leaders.
- Develop and manage program budgets, including fundraising and booster club coordination.
- Attend state and local Athletic/Activities Directors meetings as necessary.
- Develop positive relationships by communicating with parents, students, staff, and community regarding programs and expectations.
- Maintain accurate records and results each year for all activities.
- Serve as liaison between the school and local/state organizations, leagues, and associations.
- Assure all schedules are posted and accurate.
- Assure that scores and information are provided to appropriate media outlets.
- Promote equity and inclusion in all extracurricular offerings.
- Supervise and attend school events as necessary, including nights and weekends.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Adheres to all district and Missouri rules, regulations, and policies.
- Assist in planning and coordinating daily bus routes and activity trips.
- Support recruitment, training, and scheduling of bus drivers.
- Help ensure compliance with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) transportation regulations.
- Maintain transportation records, including mileage, inspections, and driver certifications.
- Assist with bus discipline issues and student safety procedures.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and inspections with maintenance staff or vendors.
- Serve as backup for the Transportation Director when needed.
- Assist with emergency procedures and route adjustments (weather, breakdowns, etc.).
- Monitor fuel usage and transportation-related expenditures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, preferred in education, sports management, or leadership coaching experience preferred.
- Missouri teaching or administrative license preferred.
- Prior experience in coaching, teaching, or activity advising leadership preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Bus License preferred or willing to become a certified bus driver
- Willingness to become a certified to provide training to bus drivers
