Located in Wilmington, North Carolina, Sturdy has been a full-service provider of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software solutions for more than 50 years. Through our "Concept to Completion" platform, we provide in-house design, manufacturing, validation, and distribution services for the automotive, heavy truck, marine, and industrial markets.
Position Overview
Sturdy Corporation is seeking an experienced SMT Operator to join our manufacturing team in Wilmington, NC. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining SMT equipment, ensuring product quality, and supporting efficient production processes.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Overtime: Required as business needs dictate
Essential Responsibilities
- Safely operate SMT Pick-and-Place equipment
- Load feeders and machine programs according to setup instructions
- Understand feeder sizes, pitches, and component requirements
- Identify electronic components and verify proper placement
- Perform machine startup, changeovers, production runs, adjustments, shutdowns, and alarm response
- Conduct in-process inspections and quality checks
- Verify component placement, orientation, polarity, values, and missing components
- Assist with machine maintenance and preventive maintenance activities
- Read and follow assembly instructions, work orders, and process documentation
- Accurately document machine performance and production metrics
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous manufacturing experience
- Hands-on SMT machine operating experience (required)
- Experience with JUKI SMT equipment strongly preferred
- Basic math skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electronics manufacturing
- Experience troubleshooting SMT production equipment
- Familiarity with IPC standards and electronic assembly inspection practices
What We're Looking For
We are seeking candidates with demonstrated SMT experience who can contribute immediately to our production environment. Applicants without SMT machine operating experience will not be considered for this position.
