Job Overview
The Drafter supports the engineering and detailing teams by producing and revising drawings, SDS/2 models, and submittal packages for structural steel projects. This role is a key contributor to keeping project moving efficiently from design through production.
This position may be performed onsite or remotely, depending on the candidate’s SDS/2 experience level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Create SDS/2 models and drawings based on project requirements

Create and update submittal drawing packages for customer and engineering review through AutoCAD.

Support internal detailers and third-party engineers with drafting and modeling needs

Compile documentation including drawings, calculations, specifications and RFIs

Ensure drawings align with company standards and project design intent

Assist in resolving design and field-related issues related to fit, fabrication, and constructability

Communicate design concepts and solutions using 2D and 3D CAD tools
-
Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities.
Experience Levels & Work Location
Entry to Mid-Level (Onsite – Hewitt, TX)

0-2 years of SDS/2 experience

Works closely with engineering and detailing teams

Training and development provided
Experienced SDS/2 Drafter (Remote Eligible)

2-4 years of hands-on SDS/2 experience required

Ability to:

Independently create SDS/2 models

Produce submittal-ready drawings

Produce Fabrication and Erection Packages from SDS/2

Support project workflows with minimal supervision
Fully remote work may be available for candidates who demonstrate strong SDS/2 proficiency.
Advanced/Senior-Level (Highly Preferred)
- 3 years SDS/2 experience

Ability to manage significant portions of project independently

Experience coordinating with engineers, fabricators, and field teams

Potential for expanded responsibilities based on experience
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree OR equivalent experience (2-5 years in drafting or related field)

Experience with:

AutoCAD (required)

SDS/2 (required)

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team

Reliable attendance and punctuality
Preferred Education and Experience

Structural steel or construction-related drafting experience

Experience with 3D modeling tools (SDS/2, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.)

Sketchup or Bluebeam Experience

Engineering software integration (SCIA and RISA)

Familiarity with submittal packages and production drawings

Experience supporting engineering or detailing teams
