Job Captain

Multifamily Residential & Affordable Housing Focus

Denver, CO

About Us

STUDIO Architecture (STUDIO) is a national architecture firm rooted in Colorado with deep experience in affordable and workforce housing. We create communities that inspire pride, foster connection and improve the daily lives of the people who call our projects home. From sustainable, zero-energy ready mountain workforce housing to market-rate, urban-infill development to student housing, we combine creativity with a deep respect for a project’s context and long-term success.

STUDIO has several new market-rate and affordable housing projects in communities across the country. While prior affordable housing experience is not required, this is an opportunity to apply your extensive multifamily technical expertise and project management skills to new work that combines community design with social impact. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on complex design challenges, values a culture of idea-sharing, craves responsibility and independence, but most importantly, believes in the power of architecture to strengthen communities.

About the Role

We are seeking a Job Captain to join our collaborative team in Denver. At STUDIO, opportunity is built into everything we do. For our team, that means real responsibility from day one; the chance to stretch your skills, and the space to make an impact.

An exceptional candidate will have the experience and ability to develop drawings sets; assist principals, associates and project architects with the production of drawing packages; coordinate with drafting teams and consultants; and apply your design and technical skills on multiple projects at the same time. You will be expected to assist project leaders, including project architects and associates, to meet all production goals and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of experience supporting the production of schematic design, design development and construction documents for medium to large multifamily residential and mixed-use projects of 100 units or more.
  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (Required)
  • Experience coordinating projects with specification writers, structural, MEP, civil and other engineering and design consultants.
  • Experience detailing building envelopes and other systems for multifamily wood frame construction projects.
  • Experience integrating building, energy and accessibility code requirements into multifamily residential projects.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills including ability to follow project architect’s direction, coordinate the work of in-house and remote architectural teams and report on task progress.
  • Ability to work well with in-house staff, project leaders and colleagues as well as build rapport with consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, track project status, identify production issues, and report weekly to project leaders on progress.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work collaboratively with our team and consultants.
  • Experience working on multiple concurrent projects while maintaining production schedules and meeting project deadlines.
  • Familiarity with entitlement and building permit review processes as well as assist with responses to city and housing authority comments at all stages of the design and construction processes.
  • Experience with construction observation/administration phase work preferred including OAC meetings, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, tracking construction progress, creating field reports, reviewing meeting minutes, monitoring construction quality, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and SketchUp required including the ability to make drawing edits and corrections in Bluebeam.
  • Knowledge of MS Project, Word, Excel and Smartsheets required.
