Studio Alexander is a residential & boutique hospitality interior design firm. We are based in San Francisco, and work on projects all over California & beyond. . We work with high quality contractors, vendors and suppliers to execute a beautiful project - as well as manage every detail along the way. Studio Alexander has developed key relationships with industry partners to help execute high-quality & detailed work - providing our clients with access to our vetted network. 

Our firm is led by Alexander, who has 10 years of experience in the interior design industry. Alexander has successfully completed dozens of projects and has a proven track record of excellence, authenticity and passion. He sees each project as an opportunity to create a home that connects with every human emotion. Through design, he expresses his desire for visual order, sensory experience and connection with others. The firm believes that great design is not overly done, it is methodically thought out and built upon a simple narrative that rings true to the architecture and site. 

Role Overview

The Interior Design Intern will assist our design team on residential and small-scale commercial projects, contributing to research, drafting, sourcing, and studio organization. This role is suited for an emerging designer who is passionate about interiors, materials, and the art of transforming space. We are looking for someone who isn’t afraid to learn and is curious about the design process.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with concept development, mood boards, and material palettes.
• Conduct research on products, finishes, suppliers, and design references.
• Support space planning and drafting tasks using relevant design software.
• Help prepare client presentations, renderings, and documentation packages.
• Assist with procurement tasks, including vendor outreach, sample ordering, and tracking.
• Maintain material library organization and sample inventory.
• Participate in site visits, installations, and project meetings when appropriate.
• Provide general studio support to ensure smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field. Ideally a Senior in their respective program.
• Basic understanding of design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar.
• Working knowledge of Photoshop & Canva for presentations.
• Strong attention to detail and an appreciation for materiality and spatial quality.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, take direction, and collaborate in a small-team environment.
• A portfolio showcasing academic or personal projects is highly encouraged.

Benefits: Studio Alexander will not be providing health insurance, benefits, or PTO for this role.

Employment Status: This is a 1099 contractor role and not a full-time position. Studio Alexander does

not pay any self-employment taxes for 1099 employees; these are the sole responsibility of the

consultant.

Availability: This an in office position at our San Francisco Studio. Studio Alexander will accommodate the Intern’s school schedule during regular business hours. 

Programs: Studio Alexander to provide access to all necessary software, specifically: Studio Designer,

Harvest, Dropbox, Google Suite, AutoCAD.
