SMARTS, based in Lanham, Maryland, has proudly served the community since 2011. Our mission is to uplift students academically and creatively through high-energy, interest-based after-school programming. We are expanding our before and aftercare program and are seeking passionate, reliable, and enthusiastic After-School Lead Teachers to join us this school year!
This role is ideal for aspiring teachers, social workers, or counselors.
What You’ll Do (and Love!)
Working under the guidance of senior staff, the After-School Lead Teacher plays a central role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for students. You will:
- ⭐ Design and lead exciting activities tailored to student interests (arts, STEM, games, creative projects, etc.)
- ⭐ Inspire and motivate students while supporting their academic and social-emotional growth
- ⭐ Create a welcoming, inclusive space where every child feels seen and supported
- ⭐ Work closely with Associate Teachers and site staff to coordinate smooth transitions, activities, and daily flow
- ⭐ Be a positive role model that students look forward to seeing each day
We’re Looking For…
- Experience working with youth (teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, mentoring, volunteering—all welcome!)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Creativity and excitement for building fun, meaningful activities
- Ability to collaborate within a team
- Problem-solving skills and flexibility to support students with varying needs
- A genuine passion for working with kids and helping them grow
- Ability to transport students to and from school if needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (college students welcome!)
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to commit to at least 2 days per week
- Must have experience working with children
Documentation Required:
- Government-issued ID
- Social Security card
- HS diploma or college transcript
- Updated resume
- Background check clearance
- CPR Certification (preferred, not required)
Schedule & Pay
- Work Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM
- Location: Lanham, MD
- Compensation: Determined during the interview based on experience & qualifications
