Position: ESY Therapeutic Counselor
Reports To: Director of Student Programs
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in counseling or equivalent area.
- Previous training and experience in mental health.
- Licensed as a mental health professional.
- Satisfy all district requirements with regards to physical health and citizenship.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal: Identify and assist special education students, families, and the school district in overcoming barriers that interfere with learning through the use of counseling, consultation, coordination of school and community resources, and program development.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide counseling for students with disabilities.
- Participate in Site Intervention Team meetings, IEP meetings, teacher staffings, and parent conferences, as needed.
- Provide behavioral consultations with parents and staff.
- Participate in departmental meetings.
- Provide professional development opportunities for staff regarding behavior assessments and intervention skills.
- Assess behavioral and emotional issues of referred students for purposes of IEP development.
- Maintain confidential, analytical, and anecdotal records for all referred students.
- Conduct individual or group counseling for students as specified in students’ Individual Education Program (IEP).
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) for development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and facilitate the implementation of behavior intervention plans, as necessary.
- Collaborate with community mental health and social welfare agencies, as well as school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, and other staff as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of developments in the counseling field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.
- Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing /Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
Terms of Employment: June 1, 2026 - June 25, 2026 (as needed)
