Position Summary 

Intern will provide assistance to support the Carlyle Lake Project and support project goals and missions in ISOP, ES, and Rec Facilities Maintenance. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative setting where environmental stewardship, education, and recreation support the project and local community while gaining valuable work experience.

May 25, 2026 - August 15, 2026

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Daily tasks will involve interacting with visitors, providing interpretation, contributing to conservation work, recreation management, and helping tell the Corps story. Duties include:
• presenting water safety programs at schools, parks, and special events.
• updating bulletin boards, assisting with interpretive displays, stocking and distributing informational materials, staffing information centers during periods of high visitation
• offering interpretive talks
• supporting environmental stewardship initiatives for natural resource management which may include invasive species removal, boundary line marking, habitat management, and wildlife surveys.
• supporting the facilities management program which may include conducting trail maintenance, minor recreation area repairs, and sign installation and removal.
• Evening, weekend, and Holiday work will be required.

 

Marginal Duties 

• Assistance in Rec Facilities maintenance and groundskeeping of all Project facilities.
• Environmental Stewardship projects and duties that may include assisting in wetland development and maintenance.

 

Required Qualifications 

• Must be at least 18 years old on start date.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Must complete defensive driving training provided by the government.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have the ability to effectively speak, read, and write in English.
• Must have the ability to work outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Must wear SCA provided attire while on duty.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Comfortable to engage with the public.
• Flexible schedule to work nights, weekends and Holidays.

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

Housing is not provided

 

Compensation  

$350 - weekly Living Allowance

$75 – weekly Commuting Allowance

$800 – monthly Housing Allowance

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
