Position Summary 

The goal of this position is to enhance visitors’ understanding of park resources. This position will provide community outreach and ranger programs. Participate in STEM Science Nights and similar activities at area schools. Develop hands-on activities, interpretive props, and written content that will enhance understanding of park resource. This position will also coordinate community outreach programs and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing outreach programs with local organizations such as Boys and Girls Club.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Community and Visitor Engagement
    • Develop and present programs about the Manhattan Project
    • Develop and present drop-in and hands-on activities at community and school events
  • Volunteer Coordination and Program Delivery
    • Recruit, schedule, and support park volunteers to present outreach programs
    • Facilitate communication between partner organizations and volunteers to ensure smooth program execution
  • Partnership Engagement
    • Interface with partner organizations to schedule outreach programs and maintain collaborative relationships

 

Marginal Duties 

  • Content Development
    • Conduct background research to develop interpretive programs, props, and social media posts
  • Administrative and Program Support
    • Track visitor statistics and maintain program records
    • Develop and update program schedules
    • Manage outreach supplies and resources
    • Communicate regularly with park staff regarding program status and needs

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Associates degree or completion of at least two years of college
  • Six months or more experience working with the public and providing quality customer service
  • Current driver’s license. Driving a government vehicle is required
  • Proficiency in basic administrative tasks and record-keeping using Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking and/or teaching people of a variety of ages from children through seniors

 

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • College coursework in communications, education, history, or related fields
  • Prior experience in community outreach, volunteer coordination, or event planning
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

Housing is not provided. The member must secure their own housing in the local area.

 

Compensation  

  • Living allowance: $500/week
  • Housing allowance: $1,300/month
  • Round Trip Travel allowance: $1,100
  • Health Insurance offered (6 months)
  • AmericCorps education award (~$3,695 at fulfillment of 900 service hours)

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
