Position Summary
Educator Saratoga Spa State Park and Morea Lake State Park are both located in Saratoga County. The Educator will connect individuals to these valuable resources through guided school field trips, interpretive public programs, tabling events, and other educational engagements. Members may also be required to assist with stewardship initiatives, volunteer coordination, event coordination and additional tasks as needed.
Saratoga Spa and Moreau Lake State Parks provide educational and interpretive programming for a diverse population, including local rural communities and nearby urban communities in New York’s capital district. School programs provide valuable experiential learning for students who may have little experience interacting with the natural environment. Public programs provide educational and recreational opportunities to help connect people with their environment and foster stewardship and conservation values.
The Educator role will support the Park’s mission to connect visitors, children, and families with the environment through educational programs, events, and fostering stewardship and conservation values.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Educator will have a variety of experiences at these two parks, including:
Developing and implementing field trips for schools and public programming for all age groups.
Greeting people and answering questions.
Planning and assistance with large events, sometimes regionally as needed, including Trout Day, Conservation Field Day, and NatureFest.
Helping with the Nature Center and Creekside Classroom, maintaining and improving exhibits, care of animal ambassadors, and other tasks as needed.
Assistance with ongoing stewardship at the parks, such as introduced species ID and management and Project FeederWatch
Goals in mind for the candidate are:
Goal 1: Design and present at least one interpretive program at each Park
Goal 2: Directly interact with at least 500 visitors at the parks, offering informational interpretation, answering questions and providing information on a wide range of topics.
Goal 3: Help design a temporary exhibit about the natural resources at one of the parks
Marginal Duties
- Helping to document project progress (photos, notes, or social media updates).
- Participating in outreach or community engagement event.
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Member must have a bachelor’s degree, major in Biology, Environmental Studies, or Education is preferred
Good people skills, especially with children
Good communication skills
Passion and commitment to environmental conservation
Interest in teaching and learning about the natural world
Ability to work independently and with the team
Some knowledge of NYS flora and fauna and natural sciences
Preferred Qualifications
Artistic skills in graphic design or other visual arts are desired but not a requirement
Computer and technology skills are a plus
Training in Environmental Education program development and presentation will be provided.
Training in introduced plant ID and local floral and fauna will be provided.

Amount of the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award being offered for successful completion of the member’s term of service: $5,176.50 Amount of Living Allowance member will receive: $440/week All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
