Position Summary
Wilderness and Recreation Rangers needed. Wilderness Rangers will venture into the backcountry working on projects and checking with campers. Recreation Rangers will work in developed campgrounds performing maintenance and operation work.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Wilderness Ranger: Hiking and camping throughout the wilderness, performing campsite cleanup, minor trail maintenance, checking with campers, and educating visitors on leave no trace principles.
Developed Recreation Rangers: Check on campers, collect fee envelopes, clean facilities, coordinate with volunteers, minor maintenance projects.
Marginal Duties
Keeping daily logs, data collection, assist in other recreation projects.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Willingness and ability to work well independently and as a team.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. (day pack/bags of equipment)
- Ability to assist and engage with the public.
- An understanding of Leave No Trace principles and the Wilderness Act
- A positive attitude
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Backpacking or camping experience, desire to be and work outdoors.; Hard skills: hand tool, shovel, power tool, carpentry experience; Soft skills: Comfortable interacting with strangers, informing visitors of rules, self-initiation and integrity to work hard and dirty.
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
Shared room in house (barracks) near the main office. Wilderness Rangers will camp in the wilderness a few days a week, Forest will provide basic camping supplies.
Compensation
- Living allowance $500/ week
- Barrack housing Provided
- Round trip travel $1,100
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
