Employment Term: 210 days/11 months: Exempt

Salary/Wage Range: ($65,628 - $105,561). New hires are offered up to mid-point dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Summary

 

Provides direct supervision to the residential staff. Develops and coordinates a variety of after-school programs and activities for all residential students and participating day students. Ensures the safety and well-being of students. Serves as a mentor for staff through modeling, demonstrating, and implementing best practice in supporting students’ total growth utilizing the Compassionate Systems model. Maintains records and files appropriate to the position – e.g. student incident reports, activity requests, time sheet information, progress reports and appropriate student referrals for services. It is anticipated and expected that all functions of this position will be performed in a positive and receptive manner, while helping to advance the mission and vision of New Mexico School for the Deaf.

The duties and competencies listed are comprehensive yet not all inclusive of this position.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

 

  • Facilitates effective communication between the residential program and academic departments.
  • Collaborates with principals, student organization advisors and Athletic Director to maintain updated calendar of activities.
  • Implementation of Student Life activities/developmental programs.
  • Reviews and establishes program goals with the Director and residential staff.
  • Ensures positive appearance and cleanliness of the cottages and Roadrunner Activities Center.
  • Improves the quality and accountability of student development services of the residential programs through the use of supervision, performance evaluation, staff development activities and tracking of results.
  • Promotes effective and positive relationships with students, staff/faculty, parents, visitors, and other community members.
  • Conducts parent conferences as needed.
  • Interprets school policies to parents.
  • Assists the Director of Student Affairs in managing the resources of the residential units.
  • Maintains standards for student behavior.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the NMSD Student Handbook.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive training model for professional development of residential staff.
  • Assists with keeping the Student Life Standard Operating Procedures current.
  • Supports NMSD’s progressive vision and mission.
  • Works evening hours.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

 

Position-Specific Qualifications/Requirements:

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Fluent in America Sign Language
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Student Life (or related experience working with K-12)
  • Maintains current Drivers License and Defensive Driving Certificate (Course will be offered)
