Key Responsibilities
Project & Customer Engagement
- Serve as the designated Process Engineer and/or Project Manager for assigned projects.
- Communicate directly with customers, including travel to project sites for meetings, data collection, installation planning, process parameters, controls interface, and production downtime coordination.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring open and timely communication.
- Develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
- Conduct fluid dynamic and thermodynamic calculations to size pumps, piping, valves, heat exchangers, and determine steam/cooling loads.
- Specify process equipment components (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, etc.) and prepare requisition documentation.
- Ensure all designs meet contractual scope, project requirements, and industry standards.
- Work with design teams to guide and validate mechanical designs (skids, tanks, piping layouts, etc.).
- Provide process direction and detailed information to Automation/Controls teams for control panel design and PLC programming.
- Assist Sales and Estimating with technical proposals, pre-bid drawings, and evaluation of customer specifications.
- Support drafting teams with drawing approvals and technical details needed during proposal or execution phases.
- Provide on-site support to verify piping installations align with P&IDs and sanitary/mechanical best practices.
- Participate in system startup, commissioning, and training of customer personnel.
- Assist in resolving design discrepancies, punch-list items, and warranty-related issues.
- Maintain appropriate on-site presence to support installation teams and ensure project schedules stay on track.
- Travel up to approximately 35% (primarily regional Midwest, with some domestic and occasional international travel). Ability to obtain a passport required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Food Science, or related), or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process, fluid, or thermal system design (7–10 years preferred).
- Experience developing P&IDs and PFDs required.
- Experience in sanitary or industrial process environments preferred.
- Strong competency in process engineering principles.
- Familiarity with sanitary piping practices preferred.
- High proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with AutoCAD 2D or similar drafting tools.
