Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Structural Steel Welder to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling structural steel components on construction sites and in fabrication shops. Your expertise will ensure the integrity and safety of steel structures used in commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. Duties
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to determine welding specifications and assembly procedures
- Perform welding operations using various techniques including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and gas metal arc welding in accordance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards and ASME codes
- Measure and mark metal materials accurately using calipers, micrometers, measuring instruments, and shop math to ensure precise cuts and welds
- Operate power tools, plasma cutters, machining equipment, and hand tools for cutting, shaping, and assembling sheet metal and structural steel components
- Use cranes and other lifting equipment safely to position heavy steel members during fabrication or installation
- Weld metal materials such as sheet metal, structural beams, plates, and fabricated components with attention to quality control standards
- Maintain a clean work environment by adhering to safety protocols, inspecting welds for defects, and documenting work progress regularly
Experience
- Proven construction site experience with a focus on structural steel fabrication and welding projects
- Demonstrated ability to read mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and interpret engineering specifications accurately
- Hands-on experience with various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding in accordance with AWS standards
- Familiarity with the use of measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and shop math for precise fabrication tasks
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations, working at heights with cranes or scaffolding, and handling heavy materials safely
- Experience working in fabrication shops or on large-scale construction sites involving metal fabrication and assembly processes
- Mechanical knowledge related to construction materials, ASME codes & standards for pressure vessels or structural components is a plus
