ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This full-time position is on-site in Birmingham, AL, with the potential for the right candidate to work remotely in Nashville, TN. The engineer will perform structural analysis and design for building projects and prepare calculations, drawings, and technical specifications that meet safety, code, and client requirements. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with architects, contractors, and other engineers, reviewing project documents, coordinating design details, and participating in project meetings. The role involves using CAD and BIM tools to develop and revise structural plans, supporting value engineering efforts, and assisting with construction administration activities, such as responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings. The engineer will contribute to multiple project types and must manage deadlines, document work clearly, and maintain exacting standards of quality and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates should possess a solid foundation in structural engineering (structural analysis and detailing) and minimum of 5 years of experience relevant to building structures.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural emphasis (Required)
- Master's degree with structural emphasis (Preferred)
- Professional engineering licensure in the state of Alabama (or can obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC) and ability to apply them in design.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to document calculations and decisions clearly.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervise work of and help mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
- Prior experience with commercial, institutional, or industrial building projects is required.
