SUMMARY
Structural Composites, Inc. (SCI) designs and builds composite structures used in the Marine, Defense, Infrastructure and Transportation Markets. SCI’s niche is in commercialization of novel technologies. The company's core products include structural design & analysis, specialized manufacturing of composite structures and parts, innovative R&D, tooling development and composite materials testing. SCI focuses on affordable, innovative composite and hybrid metal composite manufacturing solutions.
The Engineer Composites position supports the engineering department in developing, testing, modifying, and creating solutions to technical problems. This role combines analytical design, hands-on composite fabrication, and mechanical testing to prove concepts. Project management experience is also required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage projects, reporting to VP Engineering.
· Perform composites design using software such as FEMAP, RINO, SolidWorks, CAD, others, as directed by supervisor.
· Perform structural calculations by hand to verify FEA/FEM results.
· Perform research and development of new technologies and products.
· Attend/receive training as directed by supervisor. Such training to include composites lamination and composites testing and other training required for the job.
· Train and mentor interns and engineering support staff as directed by supervisor.
· Make detailed plans to accomplish goals.
· Maintain descriptive log books and notes.
· Review, modify product designs as directed by supervisor.
· Work with other engineers and ISO team to maintain ISO compliance for engineering department. · Maintain accurate engineering records and documents in accordance with Company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
· Maintain confidentiality of company proprietary information and customer information.
· Support and/or develop work instructions, procedures, drawings, techniques, material and processes for designed structures.
· Work closely with engineering and production teams to accomplish project goals.
· Research and contribute to technical proposals to various companies and government agencies.
· Prepare project reports for clients.
· Improve manufacturing processes and advance scientific research.
· Confer with higher levels of engineering and/or management based on needs.
· Increase and improve the technical capabilities of the engineering department.
· Present company related topics at conferences and trade shows as directed by supervisor and/or management.
· Other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: BS or greater in civil, mechanical or ocean engineering; proof of US citizenship upon hire.
Preferred: Five years or more engineering experience with composites, three years project management experience, design and/or hands-on experience with composite materials and composites R&D or manufacturing. Experience with structural design (CAD) and modeling (FEM).
