What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Law Associate Attorney position at Stross Wess Cutcher & Levin LLP?
Basic Function:
Under the supervision of the Partners of the Firm, the Associate Attorney will assist Partners in providing legal counsel to clients. The Associate Attorney will execute all necessary legal work as directed by the Partners and help identify next steps in a case. The Associate Attorney position is instrumental in advancing cases toward an efficient resolution.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare pleadings, declarations, memoranda of points and authorities, trial briefs, discovery requests, responses to discovery, Preliminary Declarations of Disclosure, Final Declarations of Disclosure, correspondence, document indices, bates logs, and other documents
- Prepare Judicial Council forms
- Attend depositions, hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
- Perform legal research on relevant case issues as needed, draft research memoranda, and advise Firm partners on research findings
- Communicate with clients via email, telephone, and/or video conference
- Assist in the organization of client files as necessary
- Accurately record client work in billing software
- Efficiently prioritize and multitask
- Collaborate well in a team environment
- Perform well in a fast-paced environment
- Consistent professional demeanor
- Work full-time (and some overtime) as necessary to consistently meet deadlines
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance, including in-office when requested
- Work professionally and cooperatively with others
- Comply with all Firm policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) required
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience practicing family law
- Must be admitted to and in good standing with California Bar
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent grammar and editing skills
- Organized and methodical, with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Experience using law practice management software, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Essential Forms, Westlaw, and Sage Timeslips
- The ability to work full-time (and sometimes overtime) from the office, as necessary
- Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer and telephone for prolonged hours
- Ability to lift 15 pounds
