Position Overview:
Strong Excavation is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to support our civil and site development projects. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for underground utilities, earthwork, and site infrastructure projects. The Estimator will work closely with project management, operations, and leadership to ensure projects are bid accurately and set up for successful execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Preconstruction:
Review and interpret project plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, and site development scopes
Prepare accurate cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
Solicit, evaluate, and compare vendor and subcontractor quotes
Identify potential risks, scope gaps, and value-engineering opportunities
Project Support & Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers and field teams during preconstruction and handoff
Assist with budget setup, cost tracking, and change order pricing
Maintain organized bid files, takeoffs, and historical cost data
Support forecasting and backlog planning by contributing to future work pipelines
Additional Responsibilities:
Communicate clearly with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors
Assist with post-bid reviews and job cost analysis
Maintain consistency with company estimating standards and procedures
Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and accuracy
Requirements:
Prior experience as a Construction Estimator in civil construction or site development is required
Strong understanding of site plans, civil drawings, and specifications
Experience estimating earthwork, underground utilities, and site infrastructure
Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital takeoff tools
Solid understanding of construction means and methods
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
