What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Utility Construction Laborer position at Strong Connection Wiring LLC?
We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Underground Utility Construction Laborer to join our utility construction crew. In this role, you will perform physical labor to assist in digging, trenching, and installing underground fiber optic conduit and cables. This position requires someone who has experience in underground industry. Perform other duties required to complete project.
- Experience: Previous underground construction, landscaping, or utility experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manual Excavation: pulling fiber through conduit, setting and securing lock boxes or hand holes, basic trench work, and laying conduit. Sometimes also assisting with vault installations, backfilling, compacting, and surface restoration like patching asphalt or sod. You’ll often use hand tools and basic power tools, follow utility safety rules, and work as part of a small crew.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate power tools.
- Conduit & Cable Placement: Place, pull, and secure underground conduit, innerduct, and fiber optic cables.
- Site Preparation & Restoration: Set up maintenance of traffic (MOT) signs and cones for safety, and restore job sites to their original condition after excavation.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA, company, and job site safety standards, including wearing proper PPE at all times.
Qualifications & Skills
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, lift up to 50 lbs consistently, and work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, mud).
- Dependability: Strong work ethic, punctual attendance, and a team-player attitude.
- Requirements: Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check and drug screening.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay Range: $170 – $200 per day (depending on experience).
- Schedule: Contract, typical shift is 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Monday – Friday).
- Pay Frequency: Weekly.
