Municipal Property Insurance Company (MPIC) is seeking an individual to join our team in the role of Director of Underwriting.
MPIC is a Wisconsin-domiciled insurance company based in Middleton that specializes in offering property insurance to Wisconsin public entities (counties, cities, villages, towns, and associated entities). These coverages include a suite of products that expressly address the unique property insurance exposures presented by this business segment and develop more than $33M of written premium.
The successful applicant for this role will work directly with senior management, technology management, and claims to lead the underwriting strategy and relationship development for more than 680 insureds and our agency force. The primary duties in this role are:
- Works directly with the CEO to set underwriting direction for MPIC
- Works directly as co-agent with accounts that are subject to direct service contract requirements
- Responsible for the assignment of underwriting responsibilities for contracted agents
- Conducts field visits with contracted agents and provides required product training
- Interacts and analyzes competitor and underwriting data provided by Director of Product and Underwriting Technology
- Analyzes and understands marketplace trends and insured needs, leading to product development, evolution, and change, as needed
- Assists with the collection and analysis of competitor information (forms and rates)
- Receives, reviews, and distributes appraisals to insureds and agents
- Works with MPIC CEO and Director of Products and Underwriting Technology to develop promotional materials
- Provides quarterly newsletter information and other presentation materials and articles, as needed
- Participates in MPIC Board meetings and association conferences, as needed
The qualified candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or related field
- Professional industry designation is preferred (CPCU, CIC, ARM, etc.)
- A minimum of 5 years, with 10 years preferred, progressive underwriting and/or underwriting management experience.
- Has or can obtain a Wisconsin Intermediary License for Property and Casualty Insurance
- Some office time required (1-2 days per week) in Middleton, WI. Option to work remotely after successful onboarding.
- Frequent travel with some overnight stays (10-15 nights per year) for client visits and conference participation
- Regular standing, walking, and light carrying of materials
