The General Foreman is responsible for the field planning, coordination, and execution of industrial construction activities as directed by the Superintendent. This position provides direct supervision to craft personnel while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards.

The General Foreman serves as the frontline leader for daily operations and is responsible for workforce management, productivity, material coordination, safety performance, quality control, and communication between field crews and project leadership. This role may oversee civil, mechanical, piping, structural, equipment installation, or multi-discipline construction activities depending on project requirements.

Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead and supervise craft personnel and subcontractors in daily construction activities.
  • Communicate daily work plans, expectations, and production goals to crews.
  • Train, mentor, and develop craft personnel.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with the Superintendent.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Assist in resolving field issues, conflicts, and productivity concerns.
  • Ensure all employees understand project objectives, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
Planning & Scheduling
  • Plan, organize, and execute daily and weekly work activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, tools, and equipment to support upcoming activities.
  • Participate in project planning, look-ahead scheduling, and coordination meetings.
  • Identify potential schedule impacts and communicate them proactively.
  • Assist in developing solutions to maintain project milestones.
Safety
  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and crew safety meetings.
  • Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for applicable work activities.
  • Ensure all employees use proper PPE and safe work practices.
  • Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
  • Possess stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist.
  • Support Strobel's safety culture and lead by example.
Quality
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
  • Verify proper installation methods and workmanship standards.
  • Coordinate required inspections and quality documentation.
  • Assist with turnover documentation and punch list completion.
  • Promote a "right the first time" quality culture.
Productivity & Cost Control
  • Monitor crew productivity and daily performance.
  • Track quantities installed and labor hours.
  • Assist in achieving or exceeding project productivity goals.
  • Review daily manpower utilization and adjust resources as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Manage labor, equipment, and material resources responsibly.
Materials & Equipment
  • Develop and maintain material handling plans.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and verify quantities received.
  • Ensure delivery tickets and documentation are submitted properly.
  • Plan and communicate upcoming tool, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Protect company-owned equipment and project resources.
  • Monitor inventory and minimize material waste.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Complete daily reports, production reports, and quantity tracking.
  • Review and approve labor and equipment time records.
  • Document project progress and field conditions.
  • Communicate project status, challenges, and opportunities to project leadership.
  • Maintain required project documentation accurately and timely.

Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial construction experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience leading crews in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Piping
    • Mechanical
    • Structural Steel
    • Civil Construction
    • Equipment Installation
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Knowledge of industrial construction methods and equipment.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Ability to organize work and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to forecast manpower, materials, and equipment needs.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to freely access all areas of an active construction site.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and travel as project needs require
