Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medication Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering medications, monitoring patient health, and providing essential support to residents in assisted living, nursing homes, or home care settings. The Medication Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of individuals with various healthcare needs, including those with dementia, Alzheimer's, developmental disabilities, or requiring hospice and memory care. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Point of Care is preferred. Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications accurately following physician orders and facility protocols
- Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to medication
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, mobility, and nutrition support
- Maintain detailed medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, patients, and families regarding medication administration and patient status
- Observe and report any adverse reactions or changes in patient condition promptly
- Assist with specialized care needs such as tube feeding, catheter care, and dementia or Alzheimer's care
- Ensure medication storage complies with safety standards and facility policies
- Use EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of medication administration and patient information
- Follow infection control procedures and maintain a clean environment to promote patient safety
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or home care environments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and basic nursing practices is essential
- Experience with medical documentation systems such as EMR/EHR (Epic or Cerner) is preferred
- Familiarity with caring for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, developmental disabilities, or those requiring hospice care is advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations including seniors and people with disabilities
- Certification as a Medication Technician or similar credential is required; ongoing training in medication administration is expected
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality
