Job Description:
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced in-person writing and executive functioning Portland tutor to support neurodivergent middle and high school students. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of teaching or specialized tutoring experience and a strong understanding of dysgraphia, ADHD, written expression, and executive functioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized, one-on-one instruction in handwriting, written expression, and executive functioning.
- Assess students’ current writing skills and establish baseline data to guide instruction.
- Help students strengthen handwriting legibility, writing fluency, sentence development, organization, and the overall writing process.
- Teach strategies for planning, organizing, initiating, and completing written assignments.
- Use evidence-based, multisensory, and strengths-based instructional methods tailored to each student’s learning profile.
- Create a supportive learning environment that reduces anxiety and builds confidence.
- Track student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about student progress.
- Collaborate with school teams when appropriate and authorized.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching, intervention, or specialized tutoring experience.
- Experience supporting students with dysgraphia, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and learning differences.
- Strong knowledge of written expression instruction and structured approaches to the writing process.
- Experience supporting handwriting development and writing fluency.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for written expression is a plus.
- Experience reviewing educational evaluations, IEPs, and student work samples is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with students who may feel anxious or discouraged about writing.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a consistent tutoring schedule.
Schedule and Location:
- In-person tutoring throughout the Portland Metro
- Summer and school year availability
- Position available to begin as soon as possible.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $60.00 per hour
