POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for managing a nationwide institutional giving portfolio yielding over six million dollars annually through private foundation and government (federal, state and city) proposals. This is a targeted area for revenue stream growth; executed by a growing institutional giving team. The position has three direct reports, who manage regional portfolios in partnership with regional Executive Directors. This is an opportunity to work closely with STRIVE Executive Directors, Executive team members, and savvy staff to help support STRIVE’s expansion into new locations as well as in existing cities. The Director will implement strategies to ensure proper identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of the enterprise-wide portfolio. This position will also manage a portfolio of national funders who make six- and seven-figure commitments to STRIVE. As a skilled manager and grant-writer this individual will lead a team to grow existing foundation funding, identify and pursue new funding opportunities, and build the overall institutional giving portfolio. The work is detail-oriented and requires excellent grant-writing, communication, relationship, and project management skills.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and cultivate new prospects for the STRIVE National portfolio while overseeing the stewardship of existing institutional donors, developing and articulating a clear annual strategy for moving prospects and donors along a path to secure or increase gifts and grants through telephone calls, personal visits, written proposals, and meetings. This would be done in partnership with Executive Directors, CEO, CPO, and CDO.
- Project manage and write city, state, and federal grants.
- Coordinate funder site-visits and meetings, represent STRIVE at meetings and briefings with current and potential funders.
- Proposal development and writing; copy-editing, proofreading, and assisting in submissions for direct reports.
- Track proposal deadlines, progress reports, and final grant reports, ensuring timely submissions and adherence to deadlines for the full STRIVE institutional giving portfolio through the use of development database systems.
- Provide supervision, coach and develop institutional fundraising staff.
- Work with STRIVE leadership and program staff to identify strategies for institutional partners on an annual basis
- Work with the Development Associate and Finance team to ensure proper grant kick-off processes and grant management.
- Stay abreast of organizational and programmatic priorities and initiatives as well as current news and information related to program areas.
- Develop a strong working knowledge of research and literature informing the programmatic field.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required
- Four to seven years of work experience in a fundraising environment with a successful track record in securing six- or seven-figure grants of both private and public funding
- Experience managing a team or having a direct report
- Excellent writing and analytical skills
- Experience conducting stewardship activities to cultivate and maintain positive donor and foundation relationships.
- Familiarity with fundraising software such as Foundation Center and Raiser’s Edge NXT are encouraged.
- Knowledge of the workforce development field is encouraged.
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft office
