Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
• Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
• Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
• Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
• Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
• Assists with new-hire orientations.
• Reconciles monthly benefits invoices and submits to accounting for payment
• Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
• Processes and administers all workers compensation claims, leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
• Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
• Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
• Assists with the open enrollment process.
• Assist with the coordination of wellness initiatives.
• Assures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
• Provides benefit plan interpretation, guidance and counsel to employees and HR Team members.
  
  

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task effectively.
• Exemplary customer service.
• Knowledge of common employee benefits practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management.
• Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS, payroll, and similar human resource management software and practices.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  
  

EDUCATION

• 3-5 years of experience in related areas such as employee benefits, wellness, retirement, leaves of absence, and/or workers compensation required.
• Associate’s degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
  
  

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study.
• CRE Industry a plus.
• SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification credential.
