Straz Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a Plumber/Maintenance Tech to join our Facilities team. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facilities, this position is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities in all areas, with a focus on plumbing.

Essential Functions: 

  • Maintains functionality of all plumbing systems.
  • Troubleshoots, assesses, and repairs faulty piping, fixtures, and plumbing systems.
  • Inspects and clears piping of any clogs utilizing specialized tools, such as drain snakes, air plunger, plunger, etc.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains existing and new plumbing fixtures, such as flushometers, toilets, electronic soap dispensers, electronic faucets, etc.
  • Inspects lift stations and grease traps regularly.
  • Maintains exterior irrigation system in partnership with third party irrigation company.
  • Carries out preventive maintenance assignments.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel with tasks requiring additional help.
  • Assists in additional facilities construction and renovation.
  • Maintains material stock inventory and shelf storage areas and keeps them in presentable condition.
  • Assists with setups and show program distribution.
  • Assists with cleaning tasks as necessary and performs repairs on associated equipment.
  • Assists outside contractors as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a working knowledge of all associated hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to comprehend chiller plant & EMS operation.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to cover events.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of practical trade experience in a wide variety of building maintenance trades preferred.

  • The physical demands for this position include frequent standing for extended periods of time and the use of hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, tools and controls with which to operate specialized equipment and tools.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms to operate and/or repair equipment. The employee must frequently squat, stoop or kneel, bend at the waist and reach above the shoulders, head and horizontally.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on ladders.
  • The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing job duties.
  • The employee must frequently engage in heavy labor, including the ability to move up to 50 pounds, such as a toolbox.
  • Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as motors, furniture, lumber, etc. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as motors, equipment, furniture, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The individual must be able to safely communicate with coworkers, in person, on the phone, or via radio and to be able to discern potential problems with equipment. Excellent balance is required as the employee, at times, works on ladders and on roof areas. Employees must be able to work in, on, and around large, dangerous pieces of equipment and power tools.
