Community Engagement Musical Theater Instructor (SNL)- Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Straz Center is looking for Community Engagement Musical Theater Instructor (Spanish Speaking) to join our team. The Community Engagement Musical Theater Instructor is a practicing teaching artist who possesses a strong commitment to working with children, teens, adults, and educators. The instructor plans and delivers inclusive, high-quality musical theater education programming for participants from pre- K through adult in community based and Straz Center programs. This position may teach in the Arts Education Partnership Program, Professional Development Workshops, Day @ Straz Field Trip Program and other instructional based programming as assigned. The instructor integrates musical theater disciplines-including acting, movement, vocal performance, storytelling and technical theater concepts.

Located in downtown Tampa, Straz Center offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment.

Essential Functions:

• Plan, prepare and execute age-appropriate musical theater education programming for participants from pre-K through adult.
• Develop and submit lesson plans, curriculum materials, course descriptions, assessment, teaching schedules, and other required documentation.
• Teach musical theater skills, which may include acting, improvisation, playwriting, movement, vocal production, ensemble work, character development, basic music interpretation, rehearsal practices, and technical theater production.
• Create and maintain an engaging, inclusive, safe, and effective learning environment using sound classroom-management practices.
• Guide students in the development of original dramatic work and/or musical theater performances.
• Direct and facilitate rehearsals and support students in preparing for culminating presentations, showcases, or other performance opportunities.
• Incorporate age-appropriate instruction related to theatrical production elements, including props, costumes, lighting, sets, and stagecraft, as program needs require.
• Evaluate student learning and performance; provide verbal and/or written feedback, including recommended future course of study when appropriate.
• Collaborate with the Community Partnership Coordinator, Community Engagement leadership, program-site staff, and other teaching artists on site scheduling, curriculum, logistics, and participant needs.
• Participate in pre-planning and post-planning meetings with partnership-site staff and Community Engagement personnel.
• Attend required professional-development sessions, staff meetings, trainings, and program meetings.
• Act as an ambassador for the Community Engagement program and serve as a community representative at functions or events as requested.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Must be bilingual. (English/Spanish)
• In-depth knowledge and expertise demonstrated in musical theater and performance, including acting, vocal performance, movement, and/or technical theater production.
• Demonstrated ability to teach one or more musical theater disciplines, such as acting, improvisation, playwriting, movement, vocal production, ensemble performance, musical theater, or technical theater production.
• Professional artist or teaching artist experience in the relevant field of within the past five years.
• Experience guiding students toward a culminating presentation or performance.
• Knowledge and demonstrated application of effective classroom-management strategies that maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Demonstrated leadership, organization, prioritization, multitasking, and collaborative decision-making skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as program needs require.
• Must have reliable transportation, be able to drive a car and have appropriate auto insurance coverage, and a valid Florida Driver's license.
• Ability to work on-site as a regular work routine.

Education and Work Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Musical Theater, Theater Performance, Theater Arts, Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred.
• Applicable certification or significant training and/or performance experience required and/or equivalent teaching experience required.

• Frequently remains stationary, walks, stands, moves throughout instructional and performance spaces, and positions self to handle materials such as props, costumes, and classroom supplies.
• Performs physical activities involving use of the arms, legs, and entire body, including ascending, descending, traversing, balancing, stooping, reaching, and handling materials as required for instruction and performance activities.
• Moves boxes of promotional, ticketing, instructional, or program materials short distances.

Travel: Little travel is expected; local travel to program sites may be required.
