Overview
Our Chicago-based class action litigation law firm is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team. This is a full-time, in-office position supporting the firm’s financial operations through accurate bookkeeping, reporting, and record management. Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger and subsidiary ledgers
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Perform bank reconciliations and trust account reconciliations (if applicable)
- Process expense reimbursements
- Assist with processing payroll
- Track and categorize expenses; maintain documentation for audits
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing
- Generate financial reports for attorneys and leadership
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed
- Maintain organized and secure financial files and records
Experience
- 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong understanding of general accepted accounting principles and bookkeeping principles
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks online or similar)
- Strong Excel skills (formulas, reporting, spreadsheets)
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment
- Experience with trust accounting or legal billing systems
- Associate’s degree, bookkeeping certification, or relevant accounting coursework
